Abstract

La comprensión responde a la acción cognitiva e intelectual de captar los fenómenos sociales en sus sentidos y significados, a la que tradicionalmente se la ha opuesto la idea de la explicación. La comprensión está ligada a la interpretación del acto humano, cuya actividad más representativa -la hermenéutica- es puesta a prueba tras el surgimiento de las ciencias sociales en el siglo XIX y su consecuente necesidad de justificar sus objetos y métodos. En este artículo se revisarán dos posiciones frente a la relación entre la comprensión y ciencias sociales, a saber, la respuesta fenomenológica y la hermenéutica. Finalmente se profundizará en esta última perspectiva, tratando dos cuestiones emergentes: el acceso a la acción y la racionalidad, y, el debate entre consenso y verdad que subyace en el acto de comprender.

The understanding is the cognitive and intellectual action of grasping the social phenomena in its meaning. Understanding is linked with the interpretation of human acts which its most representative activity –hermeneutics- is tested after the beginning of social sciences in the XIX century and its consistent need to justify its objects and methods. This paper will go through two positions to the relation between the understanding and the social sciences; this is the phenomenological and hermeneutic answers. Finally, there will be a deeper approach to the hermeneutic view, dealing with two important issues: the access to the action and rationality and the debate between consensus and truth that is under the understanding.
