ACERCA DE LA ESTRUCTURA DE LA DESIGUALDAD SOCIAL: ALCANCES TEÓRICOS DE LA REPRODUCCIÓN SOCIAL / About social inequality structure: theoretical significance of social reproduction

Abstract

A pesar de la existencia de muchos análisis económicos y políticos acerca de los efectos del cambio de modelo de desarrollo en Chile, no se sabe con certeza cómo es que este proceso de transformación socioeconómica ha afectado la estructuración social de nuestro país. Durante los últimos años, nuestro país ha presentado un crecimiento económico importante, sin embargo, la distribución de los frutos del progreso ha estado marcada por una fuerte desigualdad. En este marco, más allá de los aspectos económicos, este trabajo pretende resaltar, desde el aporte teórico de Pierrre Bourdieu, la importancia relativa que tienen los factores adscritos (hábitus) y los adquiridos en la distancia entre los agentes sociales, lo cual hace posible presentar la tesis de que la movilidad de los agentes sociales se puede observar en base a los capitales presentes en los distintos estratos, así como permite también releer las distancias relativas que existen entre los mismos. Este artículo pretende, por una parte, analizar conceptualmente el tema de la desigualdad social y por otra, intenta develar algunos componentes estructurantes de dicho fenómeno; esto, con el propósito último de aportar a la discusión sobre los factores asociados a la movilidad social.

In spite of the existence of many economical and political analysis about the effects of the development model change in Chile, there are no certainty about how this socio economic transformation process has affected the social structure of our country. In the last years, Chile has shown an important economic growth, although the wealth distribution is deeply uneven. In this context, besides the economical aspects, this article tries to highlight, based on the theoretical contribution of Pierre Bourdieu, the relative importance of “hábitus” and the acquired factors in the distance between the social agents, so this allows to show the thesis that social agents mobility can be observed on the base of different capitals that can be seen on different strata and in the same way, it allows us to give a new view to the relative distance that exist between themselves. This article aim is, for one hand, to make a conceptual analysis about social inequity and, on the other hand, it tries to reveal some structural components of the phenomenon with the purpose of giving new elements to the discussion of social mobility.
